Background...
This site was created by me, Linda Cunningham Fluharty, in July 2009. For years, I have wanted to do a site about Boggs Run but I never felt ready for the emotional impact. At the age of sixty-one, and with the mines buying and demolishing many of the houses, I think the time has come; it's now or never.
I spent the first eighteen years of my life on Boggs Run and I never wanted to leave. In 1966, my parents decided to upgrade to a mobile home. They sold our house, ordered the trailer, and bought a lot further down the run, across from the Garvicks. But when the purchase of the lot fell through, due to ownership complications, a life-changing situation was created. There were no other affordable options on Boggs Run, so they moved to Allendale and lived there until my mother died in 1984. My dad moved back to Boggs Run soon after; he died there in 2000.
The site is meant to accurately, but with sensitivity, depict the history of the Boggs Run community. It is not meant to invade people's privacy or reveal family secrets. In all cases, public records are used to piece family stories together. This can be a daunting task and errors may occur. Please write to submit corrections or additons.
Many people have probably left Boggs Run and never looked back. But for those of you who still live there, for those whose ancestors raised their families there, and for those who treasure their memories of life on "the run" .....this site's for you.
