By Linda Cunningham Fluharty.
In the 1950s, a YOHO family lived across from the Boggs Run School. On the side of the very steep hill, they inhabited an extremely small, wooden dwelling. It appeared to be one room, maybe 10' by 12', much like an old outbuilding, with wood siding nailed to a simple frame, and probably no interior walls. A metal chimney suggested they had a stove for burning wood or coal. There was no apparent source of running water, and if there was an outhouse, it was not visible from the vantage point of the classrooms in the school house.
Except for the second and third grade classroom, every other classroom in the school had a wall of large windows that framed the hill across across the road, with the Yoho house the only feature, albeit a small one, against the backdrop of trees and weeds.
This student, at least, spent countless hours pondering the construction of the tiny Yoho house, as well as the seemingly impossible living conditions.
The structure appeared barely attached to the hillside, and its descent to the road below seemed imminent. Yet, it stood for years. But how many years was it there? Who built it? What happened to it?
Mr. and Mrs. Yoho, now known to be Clyde and Orie (Blake) Yoho, were present at the time of the Yohos' occupation of the small house, but no specific characteristics about them are remembered. It was the children - an abundance of them - who were not forgotten.
How did so many people live in that small place?
We lived way up the run, and while our house was by no means anything to brag about, at least we had space - and running water. Sometimes, I thought we must be among the poorest people on the face of the earth, but when confronted with the site of the Yoho house, I knew things could be a whole lot worse.
In those days, there was no such thing as public assistance, and even if there had been, most people, including my own family, would never have accepted any kind of handout, including from relatives.
More than half a century later, I have no recollection of how long the Yoho family lived on Boggs Run, or when they left. But I do know where they went: Moundsville. Clyde E. Yoho, according to his obituary, was a former employee of the United States Stamping Company.
And, small world that it is, I know that the Boggs Run Yoho family is related to my husband, as well as to the countless descendants of the important pioneer YOHO family that was among the earliest settlers in Marshall County.
Ancestors of the Boggs Run Yoho Family
Although the latest generations of the Boggs Run Yoho family are not included in the genealogies of the many Yoho Family researchers, once their place was known, I relied on the important work of the researchers, specifically T. Vernon Anderson. For many years, he has shared his huge genealogy files with my Marshall County WVGenWeb site. Several links to Vernon's files on the Marshall County site are referenced below.
The Yoho Family, of Swiss Origin, has large populations, especially in the United States, Germany and Alsace France. Over several decades, researchers have compiled information, some documenting the family lineage to the year 1395. The name is spelled Yoheaux in French, Yoho in Switzerland, and Joho in German and Dutch.
Generation 1
John Michael Yoho, born about 1678 in Switzerland, died in Alsace. His wife was Susanna Gelker - See Descendants of John Michael YohoGeneration 2
Johannes Yoho, son of John Michael and Susanna, was born in 1712 in Sulzthal, Alsace, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1738. His occupation was given as "wooden shoe maker." His wife was Susannah Catherine Lau.Generation 3
As shown in the genealogy file, Johannes and Susannah had numerous children. Two of their sons were Henry and Peter Yoho, both of whom served in the Revolutionary War. They married the twin daughters of Captain John Baker, also a veteran of the Revolutionary War. Henry married Catherine Baker; Peter married Margaret Baker. My husband is a descendant of Peter Yoho. The Boggs Run Yoho family descends from BOTH Henry and Peter Yoho.
Generation 4
Henry Yoho's daughter, Mary, married Joshua Garner. [Henry's descendants are in the one large file above.]Peter's son, Joseph "Jacob" Yoho, married Margaret Unknown. See Descendants of Joseph Jacob Yoho
Generation 5
Mary and Joshua Garner's daughter, Drusilla Garner, married Lewis Yoho.Joseph "Jacob" and Margaret Yoho's son, Lewis, married Drusilla Garner.
Generation 6
Lewis and Drusilla Yoho's son, Nelson Yoho, married Sarah "Emma" Morris.Generation 7
Nelson and Sarah's son, Lewis, married Emma Katherine/Catherine Mason. Their marriage record has not been found but Emma was born in Clay County, West Virginia, so perhaps had ties there, and Lewis and his family were residents of Clay County at the time of the 1900 census. Lewis died of tuberculosis 25 Feb 1923 at Wheat, Wetzel County; age 48y 2mo 2da, at least according to the death record. On 28 July 1929, Emma Catherine Yoho, widow, age 29, married Harry Yoho, 28. She was born 29 Aug 1887, so was actually close to 43. Harry was Lewis' 1st cousin, and the son of Nelson's brother, Alva Yoho, a resident of Grant District, Wetzel County, in 1910. At that time, Harry was 9.Generation 8
Clyde Everett Yoho, the son of Lewis and Emma, married Irene O. "Orie" Blake 26 June 1933 in Marshall County. Her obituary reverses her name to Orie Irene. The marriage record states that her parents were Jack and Rosa (Hawkins) Blake. Her obituary names her father, Lewis J. Blake. The Wetzel County marriage record of Orie's parents, 5 Apr 1904, indicates that her father was Jackson Blake. - For certain, Clyde's father was Lewis, and Clyde and Orie had a son called "Jack" but he is the "Lewis" listed in her obituary.

Obits of Emma Katherine/Catherine Mason Yoho & son, Clyde.
-------------
Emma's sons, Clarence and Alvin Yoho, both got married in Marshall County, West Virginia on 17 Nov 1944. The parents listed for both were Harry and Emma.
Emma's son, Sherman C. Yoho, in the 1910 census as "German," was born 18 Apr 1908 and died 11 Sep 1998; last residence, Glen Easton, Marshall County.
Clarence B. Yoho, born 28 Oct 1923, died May 1988; last residence Marshall County.
