The preceding photo gallery is an attempt to present an ordered view of a trip "up the run," from the mouth of Boggs Run, to the top of Boggs Run Hill. Photos of Brown's Run and Orum's Lane are not included.
Unfortunately, it was not possible for me to take all of the pictures looking up the run, and I know that may cause some confusion. But, at times, it was a perilous undertaking in the midst of traffic. I did the best I could.
Please note: I have not lived on Boggs Run since 1966. For that reason, my frame of reference, in terms of the residents, is based on that era.
I am hoping to receive OLD photos of the houses and land on Boggs Run. I realize that unless I have photos of what WAS there, I can't accurately show a comparison with the appearance today. MANY houses are gone, replaced by an abundance of foliage, probably like it was before there was a Boggs Run Community. If you haven't been there for awhile, it is quite stunning.
No saloons were in evidence, but I took pictures of the "Dragon's Place" ("Doggie's") building, as well as another building at the end of the run that was once a "beer joint," as we called them. Further up the run, across from the Fire Department, the building is gone that once served as Bill Musilli's bar, maybe in the 1950s.
The building that was the Perkovic's Family Store is shown [Photo 4]. When I was a child, the Hubbard Morris' AG Food Store was located in the brown building shown in Photo 20a.
Gene Peters, founder and owner of the printing shop, is deceased. Don't know if that business is still operating. Nearby, across the road, is Keith's Pre-Owned Auto Sales. Much further up, where the Younkins Family home was in the 1950s, is the Warble Transmission business.
The hillside that once held the homes of Vic & Mildred Sustarsic and others, is now empty. This is also the case further up the run; the Bell twins house is gone, as well as the old Burke house, and the Simon house, where my dad was born.
Photo 64 is a bridge that goes to the property once owned by George Reed. The house is still up on the hill.
The old Knollinger farm, which my dad said was once a log cabin and the oldest house on Boggs Run (don't know if that's true), is gone. Wad Knollinger lived in the homeplace when we lived there. His two sisters, Ruth Knollinger Hartman and Martha Knollinger Hartman, had homes on the next two lots up the road. At one point, Betty Knollinger Joltes, another sister, lived across the road; later Bill & Karen Fisher Miller lived there.
Most shocking to me was the absence of the Ralph and Mildred (Andreas) Fisher home, later owned by their daughter, Bonnie Fisher Burkett. I'm told it was sold and not long ago, it burned to the ground.
The property I grew up on is not recognizable at all, except for the cellar. The current owner, Toni O'Bright, has completely built the house - and it is a tremendous improvement.
